Watch the lighthouse dedication ceremony in a video by Richard Brunvand. It gives a real sense of the day we dedicated the lighthouse, July 19, and the lighthouse history and renovation.

The lighthouse dedication ceremony was a fitting celebration of the completion of the Save the Light campaign. Lighthouse shaped cookies, speeches, songs, and even some talk from the lighthouse itself telling us about its past (Gary Horton inside as the voice of the lighthouse) and how it feels since its renovation.

The news media was there for the event. Pam Chappell, Jim Hughey, and Joe Foster played music for us all. Mayor Robert G. Bur issued a proclamation. Amanda Creeden, President of the Historical Association gave a speech and opened the lighthouse door signaling a new age for the light.

A splendid time as Captain Donahue would say.

An exhibit of photos of the lighthouse renovation taken by Tom Renner has been mounted in the Lighthouse Gallery at Hartman School. Come visit us at 355 Hubbard Street South Haven, OPEN Tuesday & Wednesday 9-3, Sunday 12-4 (Memorial Day-Labor Day).

Lighthouse Deed Ceremony

It’s official now! Amidst the rain and a few umbrellas, on August 9, 2012, during a transfer ceremony high on the lake bluff overlooking the pier, the Historical Association of South Haven proudly accepted the Deed to the lighthouse from the United States of America. The drizzly afternoon did not dampen the spirits though of some 50 plus supporters, who showed their enthusiasm for this acquisition by attending. So once again, thank you South Haven.
